DAMASCUS, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) -- A total of 15 pro-government fighters were killed by airstrikes in eastern Syria on Monday, a war monitor reported Tuesday.
The airstrikes targeted the positions of Iranian-backed Iraqi fighters in the al-Bukamal area in the countryside of the eastern province of Deir al-Zour, said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
The Britain-based watchdog group said the airstrikes renewed on the same area on Monday evening by an Israeli warplane in tandem with Israeli helicopters firing on Syrian military sites in the southern province of Quneitra.
The pro-Iranian fighters have been on alert in recent months amid intensified Israeli targeting.
The Israelis repeatedly said they will not tolerate an Iranian military buildup in Syria. Enditem
