SANTIAGO, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) -- The Chilean Ministry of Health reported on Wednesday that the total number of confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in the country has risen to 364,723, with 9,792 deaths.
According to the ministry, 1,781 new cases and 47 more deaths from the virus were registered in the last 24 hours.
Of the new cases, 1,216 presented symptoms and 482 were asymptomatic, with the other 83 cases without specific notification.
Chilean health authorities also said that 338,291 people have recovered from the disease and that there are currently 16,640 active cases.
Chile remains under a state of emergency, and its borders have been closed, in-person classes have been suspended, and non-essential activity has been severely limited.
The Chilean government has embarked on a plan to gradually relax the quarantine in some areas in order to reactivate the economy, given a drop in new cases. Enditem
