RIO DE JANEIRO, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- Brazil reported on Sunday 572 deaths from COVID-19 in the previous 24 hours, raising the death toll in the country to 101,049.
In the 24-hour period, 23,010 additional infections were detected, raising the total caseload to 3,035,422.
Brazil passed on Saturday the 100,000 deaths mark and 3 million infections mark, tolls second only to the United States.
Sao Paulo, the country's most populated state, is the epicenter of the national outbreak, with 25,114 deaths and 627,126 infections, followed by Rio de Janeiro with 14,080 deaths and 178,850 infections, and Ceara with 7,954 deaths and 188,542 infections.
Experts said the pandemic situation in Brazil remains worrying. Although there is a decrease in cases and deaths in the north and northeast region, infections are still occurring at a very high level.
