CHENGDU, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) -- Six people were unaccounted for as of 9:00 a.m. Tuesday after heavy rain hit Ya'an City, southwest China's Sichuan Province, according to the provincial flood control and drought relief headquarters.
Another two people were trapped under collapsed houses. Rescue efforts are underway.
The heavy rainfall has damaged roads, houses, water conservancy and power facilities in the city to varying degrees. The detailed losses are under investigation.
The headquarters have activated a level IV emergency response for floods, the lowest of the four-tier system.
Downpours lashed Chengdu, the provincial capital, Meishan City and other localities in the province from 8:00 p.m. Monday to 8:00 a.m. Tuesday. The maximum rainfall reached 447.5 millimeters, which was monitored in Lushan. Enditem
