TASHKENT, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) -- Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has instructed the government to ease COVID-19 lockdown measures step-by-step from mid-August, the country's presidential press service said Wednesday.

The Central Asian nation, which introduced a second lockdown in July to curb a resurgence of the virus, will from Aug. 15 restore domestic air and rail traffic and reopen hotels, cafes and restaurants, as well as sports centers and museums.

Members of the public will be allowed to hold family gatherings of up to 30 people, according to a report from the service.

From Aug. 17, Uzbekistan will re-allow interregional traffic and public transport in cities and towns. From Aug. 20, it will open all markets, shopping malls, fitness clubs and swimming pools, the report said.

So far, Uzbekistan has registered 32,465 confirmed COVID-19 cases, with 210 deaths and 25,106 recoveries.
