BEIJING, Aug. 18 (Xinhua) -- Xinhua News Agency on Tuesday launched multimedia wire-services in French, Spanish, Russian, Arabic, and Portuguese.

Unlike traditional news feeds, where text stories, photos, charts, and videos are separate, the new service provides publication-ready content for news websites, apps and social media platforms.

The first foreign-language multimedia wire-service released by Xinhua was in Japanese in 2018. English, Italian, Thai, Indonesian, and Urdu multimedia services followed in 2019. All of Xinhua's 11 foreign-language wire-services are now available in this innovative multimedia format.

The new wire-service is designed to provide internet users with richer content, more integrated information, and greater readability, bringing them closer to the news products that matter to them.

Xinhua English Multimedia Service provides coverage of significant events in China and beyond. The service currently sends out around 100 multimedia stories a day.

The new foreign language wire-service features customizable subscriptions, which means users get the stories that matter to them, whether politics, economy, business, culture, sports, science, or technology.

Xinhua's ongoing transition to an "online news agency," which began in 2015, aims to significantly improve its ability to serve users of online media and new media while enhancing its traditional media service functions.

With more than 230 branches and over 4,000 journalists across China and the world, Xinhua provides 24/7 multimedia news products to users in 12 languages, including Chinese and the above-mentioned foreign languages.
