Kyrgyzstan's COVID-19 cases exceed 42,000

BISHKEK, Aug. 18 (Xinhua) -- Kyrgyzstan's tally of COVID-19 cases reached 42,146 on Tuesday, with 155 new cases reported in the last day.

The republican headquarters on COVID-19 reported 318 new recoveries and two coronavirus-related deaths over the past day, raising the tally of recoveries to 34,885 and the death toll to 1,498.

During an online meeting with President Sooronbai Jeenbekov on Monday, Prime Minister Kubatbek Boronov noted an improvement in the country's infection rate, according to the president's press service.

Boronov noted the number of new cases of infection has noticeably decreased, adding that exhaustive measures are being taken to further improve the situation and create a stockpile of medicines.
