MANILA, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) -- The number of confirmed coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in the Philippines surged to 234,570 after the Department of Health (DOH) of the Philippines reported 2,529 new daily cases on Saturday.
The DOH said that the number of recoveries surged to 161,668 after 1,136 more patients recovered. Meanwhile, 53 more patients died from the viral disease, bringing the death toll to 3,790.
The Philippines' capital Metro Manila topped the regions in the country with the highest number of daily confirmed cases reported on Saturday with 1,171.
The DOH said more than 2.59 million people in the Philippines have been tested so far. Enditem
