TOKYO, Sept. 11 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks closed higher Friday as the yen's retreat against the U.S. dollar helped bolster investor sentiment after a shaky start following another technology issue rout on Wall Street overnight.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 171.02 points, or 0.74 percent, from Thursday to close the day at 23,406.49.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 11.78 points, or 0.72 percent, to finish at 1,636.64.
Marine transportation, consumer credit and land transportation issues comprised those that gained the most by the close of play.
