LIANGSHAN, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) -- Liangshan, home to some 178,000 impoverished people, is one of the poorest regions in China that is aiming to eradicate absolute poverty this year.

In recent years, most of the young men in Liangshan have left the mountainous region to work outside, with large numbers of women left behind without work.

As an important part of local poverty alleviation campaign work, the local government has taken various measures, including developing traditional handicrafts and providing public service job positions, to help these women obtain nearby jobs and shake off poverty.
