Live COVID-19 updates: Belarus reports 243 new COVID-19 cases, total reaches 75,230

BEIJING, Sept. 18 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

MINSK -- Belarus reported 243 new confirmed COVID-19 cases on Friday, taking the nationwide count to 75,230, according to the country's health ministry.

There have been 131 new recoveries in the past 24 hours, bringing the total to 73,098, the ministry added.

KUWAIT CITY -- Kuwait on Friday reported 704 new COVID-19 cases and five more deaths, raising the tally of infections to 98,528 and the death toll to 580, the Health Ministry said in a statement.

Currently, 9,172 patients are receiving treatment, including 101 in ICU, according to the statement.

TEHRAN -- The number of COVID-19 infections confirmed so far in Iran reached 416,198 on Friday, after an overnight registration of 3,049 new cases, Iran's Ministry of Health and Medical Education announced.

Sima Sadat Lari, the spokeswoman for the ministry, reported at her daily briefing 144 new deaths in Iran over the virus, taking the total death toll to 23,952 so far.

BAGHDAD -- The Iraqi Health Ministry on Friday reported 4,305 new COVID-19 cases, raising the total nationwide infections to 311,690.

The ministry also confirmed 76 new deaths from the infectious disease, taking the death toll to 8,408. Meanwhile, 4,205 more patients recovered from the disease, bringing the total number of recoveries to 245,305.

JAKARTA -- The Indonesian government said there are more than 1,000 clusters of the COVID-19 infections across the country, the government's spokesperson for the COVID-19 Mitigation, Reisa Broto Asmoro said.

The figure was obtained from a tracking process by the government though its regional health offices and health community centers on all the confirmed COVID-19 patients, Asmoro told a press conference at the presidential office here on Friday.

YANGON -- The death toll of COVID-19 recorded 70 with new deaths on Friday night, according to a release from the Health and Sports Ministry.
