CARACAS, Sept. 22 (Xinhua) -- The vice president of the ruling United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) warned on Tuesday that sectors of the Venezuelan opposition are planning to commit violent acts ahead of the upcoming parliamentary elections.

"We want to take all the necessary measures to get to Dec. 6 in peace," said Diosdado Cabello.

On Dec. 6, more than 20 million Venezuelans will cast their vote to choose 277 deputies to the National Assembly for the period of 2021-2026.

At a press conference, the PSUV leader asserted that Venezuelan intelligence agencies have detected movements that indicate intentions to generate violence.

Cabello claimed that among the objectives that certain sectors of the opposition would plan to attack are basic public services and facilities belonging to Petroleos de Venezuela, the state oil company.

For this reason, Cabello instructed all PSUV structures and allied parties to report on "strange movements" observed in the country.

He also urged all parties participating in the parliamentary elections to recognize and respect the decisions made by the National Electoral Council. Enditem
