JERUSALEM, Sept. 23 (Xinhua) -- The number of coronavirus cases in Israel reached 200,041 on Wednesday, with 6,667 new cases, the state's Ministry of Health said.
It is the highest daily rise since the outbreak of the pandemic in Israel in late February, as the previous record was 6,063 registered on Sept. 16.
The number of daily death cases hit record high of 31, bringing the total fatalities to 1,316.
The number of recoveries reached 144,401, with 3,650 new recoveries.
On Tuesday, the Israeli government approved a plan to expand the national economic safety net to deal with the pandemic's impact.
"Expanding the plan will enable immediate economic assistance for businesses and wage-earners who are expected to be hurt by the current COVID-19 nationwide lockdown," said a joint statement by the Prime Minister's Office and Finance Ministry.
