U.S. COVID-19 cases surpass 7.4 mln: Johns Hopkins University

NEW YORK, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) -- The total number of COVID-19 cases in the United States surpassed 7.4 million on Sunday, according to the Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at Johns Hopkins University.

U.S. COVID-19 case count rose to 7,411,716, with the national death toll reaching 209,720, as of 3:23 p.m. local time (1923 GMT), according to the CSSE.

California reported 830,766 cases, the highest among all states. Texas and Florida both registered more than 700,000 cases, followed by New York state with more than 460,000 cases.

Other states with over 200,000 cases include Georgia, Illinois, Arizona, North Carolina, New Jersey and Tennessee, according to the CSSE.

U.S. COVID-19 cases hit 7 million on Sept. 25.

By far, the United States remains the world's worst-hit nation, with the most cases and deaths, making up more than one fifth of the global caseload and death toll, respectively. Enditem
