BISHKEK, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- Kyrgyz parliamentarians elected a new speaker of the parliament at an extraordinary meeting on Tuesday.
Kanatbek Isaev, the 45-year-old leader of the Kyrgyzstan parliamentary faction, became new speaker of the Kyrgyz Parliament.
Some 78 deputies voted for the candidacy of the new speaker, as against two. In total, 80 ballots were issued for voting. 62 out of 120 members of the parliament attended the meeting, while another 18 deputies who were absent, transferred the right to vote to their colleagues by the power of attorney.
Former Speaker Dastanbek Dzhumabekov resigned on Oct. 6 amid protest actions after the parliamentary elections. The members of the parliament elected the same day Myktybek Abdyldaev as the speaker, however he announced his resignation on Oct. 10. Enditem
