Schools in Sao Paulo were closed in March and gradually reopened in September, but only for extracurricular activities or supplementary education.
SAO PAULO, Oct. 22 (Xinhua) -- Brazil's biggest city, Sao Paulo, will resume in-person secondary school classes starting Nov. 3, Mayor Bruno Covas said on Thursday.
Attending in person will be optional, added Covas, whose city has been the epicenter of Brazil's novel coronavirus (COVID-19) epidemic since Latin America's first case of COVID-19 was detected here on Feb. 26.
"The return to face-to-face classes for the three years of middle school is optional. It is for the network of public and private schools, with all health security measures," Covas said at a press conference.

For the time being, kindergarten and elementary schools in the city will continue distance learning. ■
