GABORONE, Nov. 12 (Xinhua) -- Mindful of excellent and the ever deepening bilateral relations between Botswana and Namibia, the two neighboring countries have vowed to resolve the fatal shooting of three Namibian nationals in an amicable manner, an official said Thursday.
Andrew Sesinyi, the Botswana government spokesperson, said in a statement that President Mokgweetsi Masisi of Botswana has been in direct contact with his Namibian counterpart, President Hage Geingob following the shooting incident on Nov. 5.
The Nchindo brothers, Wamunyima, Martin and Tommy, suspected to be elephant and rhino poachers, were shot dead along Chobe River near the pristine and resort township of Kasane in the northern part of Botswana, an area with a high volumes of wildlife, during an anti-poaching exercise by the Botswana Defense Force (BDF)
"The two Heads of state have expressed their full commitment to resolve this issue in an expeditious and amicable manner," said Sesinyi.
In the spirit of good neighborliness, Sesinyi said the two countries have agreed to undertake a joint investigation with the view to determine and address the circumstances that resulted in the incident.
Sesinyi said Masisi and Geingob have assured the bereaved family and the respective nationalities of the two nations that the incident is receiving the utmost attention it deserves from the relevant authorities in Botswana and Namibia.
Masisi appealed to the peoples of the two neighboring countries to remain calm while investigations are in process. Enditem
