RIO DE JANEIRO, Nov. 23 (Xinhua) -- Brazil on Monday reported 302 new deaths from the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), raising the death toll to 169,485.
In its daily pandemic report, the Ministry of Health said tests detected 16,207 new cases of infection, bringing the total caseload to 6,087,608, since the first case was confirmed on Feb. 26.
Brazil has the world's second-highest COVID-19 death toll, after the United States, and the third-largest outbreak, after the United States and India.
In November, Brazil registered an increase in cases and deaths from the virus, leading to speculation the country may be undergoing a second wave of the epidemic, though others say the first wave has yet to end.
Brazil's state-run Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz), a leading biomedical institution, announced Monday it plans to vaccinate 130 million Brazilians in 2021, with 65 million vaccinated in the first half and the remaining 65 million in the second half. Enditem
