ALGIERS, Nov. 24 (Xinhua) -- Algerian health authorities on Tuesday reported 1,133 new COVID-19 cases, the highest single-day increase since the outbreak of the pandemic in the North African country in February.
In addition, 15 people died from the virus and 649 were discharged from hospitals in the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 2,309, Djamel Fourar, head of the scientific committee for monitoring the COVID-19 pandemic, said in his daily press briefing.
The total number of coronavirus infections has reached 77,000 in Algeria, with 37 patients still in intensive care units, he added.
Fourar announced on Monday that 120 employees in the health sector had died and 9,146 others infected since February.
He stressed that it is imperative to protect medical staff and abide by anti-virus measures. Enditem
