YINCHUAN, Nov. 26 (Xinhua) -- Northwest China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region will establish a national healthcare big data institute as part of its latest effort to introduce cutting-edge technology in the healthcare system.

The institute will be built jointly in the regional capital of Yinchuan by the Ningxia regional health commission, the regional science and technology department, Peking University Health Science Center, and Ningxia University.

The institute aims to conduct research on the application of big data technology in public health and clinical practices, develop relevant products and cultivate multidisciplinary talent.

Xiao Yuan, deputy director of Peking University Health Science Center, said big data technology has played an important role in virus tracing as well as epidemic prevention and prediction during the COVID-19 pandemic and has contributed to the resumption of work and production in China.

Besides, a big data industrial park has also been established in Yinchuan, attracting more than 100 internet firms in the healthcare sector. Enditem
