MADRID, Nov. 27 (Xinhua) -- Luis Suarez and Alberto Soro scored the goals that gave Granada a 2-1 win at home to Cypriot side AC Omonia, putting one foot into the knockout stage of the Europa League.

Suarez opened the scoring early in the game, played under heavy rain in the Los Carmenes Stadium.

Although Ernest Asante leveled the scores for AC Omonia, Alberto Soro scored the winner for the home side on a rebound after a shot from Luis Milla.

Real Sociedad's progress into the tournament's knockout phase is still very much in the air after the La Liga leaders were held to a 0-0 draw away to Dutch side AZ Alkmaar.

The Basque side had more of the ball, but AZ had the best chances in a tight game, and Real Sociedad will now probably have to beat Rijeka and avoid defeat to Napoli to assure their place in the knockout phase.

Villarreal will have to wait another week at least before assuring their place in the last 32 after a team with a lot of changes could only 1-1 draw away to Maccabi Tel Aviv.

Alejandro Rodriguez Baena put the Spanish side ahead in the 44th minute with a finish with the outside of his foot after a pass from Carlos Bacca. Still, Maccabi equalized almost directly after the break thanks to Aleksander Pesic. The home side pressured hard in the closing minutes, looking for a winning goal despite Enric Saborit's late red card. Enditem
