LUSAKA, Dec. 14 (Xinhua) -- After years of experimenting with different kinds of convectional hair and skin products, Mwansa Kawesha, a young woman in Zambia's capital Lusaka decided to make products that best suited her needs.

"I struggled to find the kind of hair and skin products that were good for me. A lot of the products on the market contained substances that did not well work for my skin and hair. I then decided that if I could not find what was best for me, I make it," she said.

Kawesha's desire to find the right body and hair ointment led to what is today known as Bantu Blends, a Zambian cosmetic company dealing in organic body and hair products that are made from wild and readily available plants among them baobab, castor bean, and moringa.

"I started making organic products in 2014 for my hair and skin, and later I began to share homemade products and remedies with my family and friends. A few years later, Bantu Blends was born," she explained.

She added that her clients, who constitute both the young and senior citizens are appreciative of her products because they find them helpful in restoring damaged skin and hair.

"The response has been great. I have many customers that have managed to grow their hairlines back and get rid of dandruff using my products. The beauty about Bantu Blends products is that they are made from plants and plant products that are in abundance and readily available," she said.

Kawesha added that in five years she envisions herself running a small factory where organic hair and skin products are made, and distributed throughout Zambia and the Southern African region and beyond.

She further pointed out that with the growing demand for organic foods and products, Bantu Blends, whose range of products has been certified by the Zambia Bureau of Standards is slowly becoming a brand to reckon with among many that appreciate natural products.
