ATHENS, Dec. 16 (Xinhua) -- The Piraeus Port Authority (PPA) S.A., a member of China's COSCO Shipping Group, donated on Wednesday 4,000 gifts to children of vulnerable families in Greece's largest port city and the neighboring municipalities ahead of the Christmas and New Year holidays.

As part of its corporate social responsibility program, the company will also provide food to families in need in the municipalities of Piraeus, Perama and Salamis in cooperation with local grocery stores, an e-mailed PPA S.A. press release said.

The gift cards were handed over by PPA Chairman Yu Zenggang and the top management team to Yiannis Moralis, mayor of Piraeus, Giannis Lagoudakis, mayor of Perama and Pantelis Dioletis, vice mayor for culture of Salamis.

The PPA also organized numerous other activities on the occasion of the upcoming holidays, like offering presents to children hosted in childcare institutions in the wider region, according to the press announcement.

This year again, the PPA supports the local church authorities' food distribution program and has distributed gifts to all PPA employees and their children, and to students who graduated with honors.

COSCO Shipping Group acquired the majority of PPA's shares in 2016 after an international tender, and its subsidiary, Piraeus Container Terminal S.A. (PCT), has been managing the port's container terminal since 2009.

Sino-Greek cooperation at Piraeus has produced remarkable results, improving drastically the image of the port with significant benefits for the local economy and society. Enditem
