MUMBAI, Dec. 22 (Xinhua) -- India's financial capital Mumbai is facing water supply shortages for a 24-hour period from Tuesday morning to Wednesday due to the repair and replacement work at water reservoirs leading to the city.
The city's civic authority, BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), has undertaken repair work of Chlorine Injection Point and appealed to its residents to store water and use water sparingly during the period.
The water supply requirement of the city is around 3,900 million liters per day and the repair work may cause a 15-percent water cut, though it may be completely cut off in two out of the 24 wards in the city during the 24 hours, civic officials said.
BMC will also replace the 1,400 mm diameter valve on the main aqueduct supplying water at its reservoir located in the suburb.
According to a BMC panel report last year, Mumbai's demand for water is estimated to go 6,424 million liters per day by the year 2041 owing to the increasing population in the city and the projected improvement of the standard of living of its citizens. Enditem
