NEW YORK, Dec. 25 (Xinhua) -- New York City's COVID-19 test positivity rate on a seven-day average went up to 6.69 percent, compared with 6.29 percent one day earlier, Mayor Bill de Blasio tweeted on Friday.
There were 208 new hospitalizations and 3,012 new cases of the coronavirus in the city, said de Blasio, adding that "I hope you and your loved ones are having a safe and happy holiday -- but we need constant vigilance against #COVID19."
"We've made sacrifices this year. The holiday may not feel like it has in the past. But this season reminds us that faith in that guiding star will lead to something better," he said in another tweet.
As of Thursday night, the coronavirus deaths added up to 24,842 and confirmed cases to 396,302 in NYC, according to The City, a project that tracks the spread of confirmed COVID-19 infections and fatalities in New York City, based on information provided by the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, the governor's office, The COVID Tracking Project and the Center for Systems Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University.
