ZHUJI, China, Dec. 31 (Xinhua) -- The Jiangsu Dragons upset the Liaoning Flying Leopards 119-112 here on Thursday evening to snap the league leaders' seven-game winning streak in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) league.
Having recorded only six victories in its last 24 matches, Jiangsu fought bravely against the Leopards, who were missing their regular starters Guo Ailun and Han Dejun due to injuries, for a 91-81 lead at the end of the third quarter.
Liaoning pulled within 112-110 with less than three minutes left in the fourth quarter, but Jiangsu ran off with four points in a row to secure their first win in the last seven tries.
"Despite the absence of Guo and Han, Liaoning is still a very strong team, the No. 1 in the CBA. I told my players to try their best in the last match of the year, they did so and they deserved the victory," said Jiangsu head coach Li Nan.
Dezmine Wells had 30 points for Jiangsu, Wu Guanxi added 21 points and 13 rebounds and Wu Yujia contributed 18 points.
Zhao Jiwei and Zhang Zhenlin had a career-high 30 and 25 points respectively, but could not save Liaoning from its third loss of the season. Enditem
