Around 1.827 billion cubic meters of water from the Yellow River, China's second longest river, has been diverted to north China's Hebei Province in 2020. It is the largest amount of water diversion from the Yellow River for years. The water diversion project is aimed at improving the environment and easing water shortages in the cities along the diversion route. Since the implementation of water diversion from the Yellow River to Hebei in 1992, the accumulative volume of water diversion has reached 10.9 billion cubic meters.
