BAGHDAD, Jan. 23 (Xinhua) -- Seven militants of the extremist Islamic State (IS) group were killed on Saturday in two U.S.-led coalition airstrikes in northern Iraq, the Iraqi military said.
Based on intelligence reports, the U.S.-led coalition aircraft conducted two airstrikes, one in Qara-Chokh Mountain in the southeast of Nineveh's provincial capital Mosul, and the second in Kirkuk province, the media office of the Iraqi Joint Operations Command (JOC) said in a brief statement.
The airstrikes resulted in the killing of seven IS militants and the destruction of four IS hideouts, the JOC said.
The security situation in Iraq has been improving since Iraqi security forces fully defeated the IS militants across the country late in 2017.
However, IS remnants have since melted in urban areas or deserts and rugged areas, carrying out frequent guerilla attacks against security forces and civilians. Enditem
