BEIJING, Jan. 24 (Xinhua) -- "Minning Town," a new TV drama depicting poverty-stricken villagers in northwest China who built their new homes from scratch after relocating from Xihaigu, one of the country's most uninhabitable areas, has become an online sensation.

Set in Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region from the 1990s to the present day, the production shows how people in Ningxia's remote region, under the guidance of China's poverty alleviation policy and with assistance from the coastal province of Fujian, triumph over destitution.

The Chinese title "Shan Hai Qing" roughly translates to "Mountain and Sea Love," which in itself implies the joining of hands by Ningxia and Fujian.

"Minning Town," a new production by Daylight Entertainment, began screening on Jan. 12 and has won applause from major media outlets and internet users.

It topped the weekly popularity chart for Chinese-language TV series on review platform Douban, boasting a rating of 9.4 out of 10 based on more than 70,000 reviews, according to the latest ranking results.

The year 2020 marked the completion of the 13th Five-Year Plan period and the mission to end absolute poverty in China. Enditem
