ACCRA, Feb. 3 (Xinhua) -- A road crash in the Northern Region of Ghana killed 17 passengers and injured 44 others early Wednesday, the police confirmed.
A police statement said the accident occurred when two passenger buses traveling in opposite directions collided head-on at a town near Buipe, a community along the Kumasi-Tamale highway.
Sixteen persons died on the spot while one more died at a hospital where the injured were receiving treatment, the statement said.
Forty-four persons on board the two vehicles sustained various degrees of injury and are receiving treatment at the Buipe Polyclinic and Holistic Medicare Hospital, said the police statement.
The statement added an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the accident. Enditem
