Maintenance workers go through attendance check before their shift at the Horgos initial compressor station of the West Pipeline Company under China Oil & Gas Pipeline Network Corporation (PipeChina) in Horgos, northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, Feb. 4, 2021. The Horgos initial compressor station is the first station of the China-Central Asia Gas Pipeline in China, and is also a critical point of China's West-to-East Gas Pipeline. During winter heating season, more than 140 million cubic meters of natural gas goes through the station every day, all the way to homes and offices across the country. Members of the Nanhai No. 1 Flying Service of Ministry of Transport, an air rescue and aid team, attend a training session off the seashore in Sanya City of south China's Hainan Province, Feb. 1, 2021. Critical moments of life or death are of a common memory to all members of the air rescue and aid team. As the only state-run force of air rescue and aid over waters around south China, the team has brought 94 people back to safety in 2020 alone. Amid each onslaught of typhoon when all ships haste home, rescue helicopters of the team always dash toward the eye of the storm, nicknamed "magic eagle" by local fishermen. Team members will still be on the watch, away from their families, at their base in Sanya during the upcoming Spring Festival holiday. "There is a mishap behind every need for rescue," said Captain Wang Chunping, "and it is our ultimate wish that everyone caught up there return home for a safe Spring Festival." (Xinhua/Zhang Liyun)
