GUANGZHOU, Feb. 6 (Xinhua) -- Once pricey Chilean cherries are now more affordable in the Chinese market. Chilean cherries have become a popular choice for Chinese consumers. Some even created a new term "cherry freedom," which means the financial capability to purchase this expensive fruit. This year, Chilean cherries saw a sudden price drop in the Chinese market, partly due to cheaper transportation and industry growth.
According to the Chilean Embassy in China, around 130 million kilograms of Chilean cherries have been exported to China and consumed by more than 400 million Chinese consumers this winter.
Precautionary measures have been taken to ensure the health of consumers amid the pandemic.
