RIO DE JANEIRO, Feb. 7 (Xinhua) -- Brazil confirmed 26,845 more COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, taking the nationwide tally to 9,524,640, the Ministry of Health said on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the country registered 522 more deaths from COVID-19 on Sunday, raising its death toll to 231,534, said the ministry.
Sao Paulo, the most populous and hardest-hit state in the country, has reported 1,849,334 cases and 54,614 deaths.
Brazil has the world's second-highest COVID-19 death toll after the United States, and the third-largest caseload following the United States and India.
Brazil's national vaccination program began in mid-January and so far around 3.5 million people have been inoculated. Enditem
