TEHRAN, Feb. 12 (Xinhua) -- Iran will launch a direct shipping line from the southern port city of Bandar Abbas to Syrian port of Latakia on March 10, Head of Iran-Syria Joint Chamber of Commerce Keyvan Kashefi announced on Friday.
Cargo ships will carry freight from Iran to Syria once per month, Kashefi was quoted as saying by Tehran Times daily.
If demand for shipping to Syria increases, the cargo service could be offered twice a month, he said.
"There are no restrictions on export items. These ships are both container and bulk carriers, and any trader can choose Syria as the export destination," he added.
Regular shipping services will have a positive impact on the volume of Iranian exports to Syria and the trade between the two countries, the official said.
According to the report, Iran and Syria also signed an agreement in July 2019 to connect the southwestern Iranian port of Imam Khomeini to Syria's Latakia Port via a railway that passes through Iraq. Enditem
