TEHRAN, Feb. 16 (Xinhua) -- Iranian Foreign Ministry on Tuesday denied "rumors" that Iran is linked to recent rocket attacks in Iraq's Erbil.

Iran strongly denies and condemns "the suspicious attempts" to attribute recent rocket attacks in Erbil to the Islamic republic, the Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh was quoted as saying by the Ministry's website.

The stability and security of Iraq is important for the region and its neighbors, and Iran rejects any attempt to disturb peace and order in this country, Khatibzadeh added.

Iran urges the Iraqi government to follow up the issue and deal with "the perpetrators of these actions," he noted.

A civilian contractor was killed and six others were injured on Monday in a rocket attack that targeted Erbil airport, which houses a U.S.-led coalition military base, in the semi-autonomous region of Kurdistan in northern Iraq. Enditem
