BEIJING, Feb. 24 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed lower Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 1.99 percent, at 3,564.08 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 2.44 percent lower at 14,870.67 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 1.06 trillion yuan (about 164 billion U.S. dollars), up from 1.02 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.
Stocks related to ship-building and cement led the gains, while shares related to liquor-manufacturing and paper-making led the losses.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, lost 3.37 percent to close at 3,007.46 points Wednesday. Enditem
