TEHRAN, Feb. 26 (Xinhua) -- Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday strongly condemned as "illegal and aggressive" the airstrikes by the U.S. forces on areas in eastern Syria.
Saeed Khatibzadeh, the spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, called the attacks as "a clear violation of human rights and international law," according to the ministry's website.
Over the past years, the U.S. forces have "illegally" entered Syria and occupied areas of the country, said Khatibzadeh, adding that the United States has "stolen" Syria's natural resources, including oil, which belong to the Syrians.
The U.S. move "would exacerbate military conflicts and further destabilize the region," he pointed out.
The airstrikes killed at least 22 pro-Iran fighters in eastern Syria on Friday morning. Enditem
