BEIJING, March 12 (Xinhua) -- March 12 marks China's National Tree Planting Day. The Latin word for tree is arbor. True to its name, Tree Planting Day, also known as Arbor Day, is a special day that celebrates the preservation and planting of trees.

It is a common belief that trees will grow to provide us with clean air and water, cooling shade, habitat for wildlife, and healthier communities. In addition to China, many countries across the world including Australia, Japan, New Zealand, Brazil, and Germany also observe such a day, though the specific date may vary in different countries.

On this special day, let's take a look at different tree-planting activities across the globe to see how the simple act of planting a tree is making our planet greener.
