BELGRADE, March 25 (Xinhua) -- Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said he was satisfied with the progress of the construction of the Belgrade-Budapest high-speed railway, describing it as a success of China's Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

Accompanied by the Chinese Ambassador to Serbia Chen Bo, Vucic on Thursday visited the construction site at Zemun railway station in Belgrade, where the Belgrade-Stara Pazova stretch is being built by Chinese companies.

According to a Serbian Presidency's press release, Vucic said that "this is the other face of Serbia. Citizens have started riding the railway again. We will have the most modern railway, the most technologically advanced in this part of Europe. In less than a year, people will be able to ride from Belgrade to Novi Sad," he said.

Vucic thanked China and recalled that the Belgrade-Budapest high-speed railway project was agreed between Serbia, China and Hungary within the framework of BRI.

Construction is currently ongoing along a 34.5-kilometer section between Belgrade and Stara Pazova and a 40.4-kilometer section between Stara Pazova and Novi Sad. The latter is being built by Russian Railways, press release said.

The total value of the 184-kilometer Serbian section of the Belgrade-Budapest railway project is around two billion U.S. dollars.
