HOHHOT, April 14 (Xinhua) -- China's top political advisor Wang Yang has called for creating a strong sense of community for the Chinese nation, upholding an accurate understanding of country, history, ethnicity, culture and religion, and maintaining ethnic unity, social stability and tranquility in the border areas.
Wang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference National Committee, made the remarks during an inspection tour from Monday to Wednesday in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. He visited villages, pastoral areas, communities, schools and research institutes.
Noting that forging a strong sense of community for the Chinese nation is fundamental to realizing national rejuvenation, Wang called for promoting the preservation, innovation and integration of the cultures of all ethnic groups on the basis of strengthening the sense of identity with Chinese culture.
He urged accelerated efforts in extending the use of Putonghua and standard Chinese characters and state-compiled textbooks to help people of all ethnic groups better accept scientific and cultural knowledge and enhance their employability.
Stressing that the system of regional ethnic autonomy conforms to China's basic national conditions and has strong vitality, Wang called for adjustments and improvements to policies concerning ethnic groups to keep pace with the times, and the adoption of targeted policies in light of local conditions.
