KABUL, April 20 (Xinhua) -- Eight policemen have been killed and two others wounded when Taliban militants attacked two security checkpoints in Afghanistan's northern Badakhshan province, a local TV channel reported on Tuesday.
The attack took place late on Monday night when the militants stormed the security posts in Sarha-e-Mohammad Jan locality of Zebak district, Ariana News TV reported.
The militants also set ablaze the posts along with all its equipment, said the report.
Zabihullah Mujahid, a purported Taliban spokesman, claimed that the insurgents' armed men killed 14 government security forces and took their weapons in Zebak.
Taliban militants, who ruled the country before being ousted in late 2001, renewed armed insurgency killing government troops as well as civilians.
They frequently attack district offices, military camps, government installations and security checkpoints while the government troops respond with airstrikes on militant targets in the countryside. Enditem
