GHAZNI, Afghanistan, April 24 (Xinhua) -- Five civilians were killed and two others were injured following a roadside bomb explosion on the outskirts of Ghazni city, capital of Afghanistan's eastern Ghazni province on Saturday, local police confirmed.

"The explosion occurred when a minibus the victims were driving touched off an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Shahliz village roughly at 8:30 a.m. local time," the provincial police department said in a statement.

According to the statement, all victims were adult males and the relative of the affected people were notified by the police.

Militants in Afghanistan have been using homemade improvised explosive devices (IEDs) to make roadside bombs and landmines to target security forces, but the lethal weapons also inflict casualties on civilians.

More than 920 civilians were killed and over 1,640 others wounded in IED explosions in 2020, according to official figures. Enditem
