HONG KONG, April 29 (Xinhua) -- Ma Kai-cheung's first investment in the Chinese mainland was a garment factory in Shenzhen, the neighboring city of Hong Kong, in 1985. Riding on the reform and opening-up of the mainland, Ma's business has proved to be a great success.
After more than three decades, the renowned Hong Kong entrepreneur, now in his late 80s, is even more confident in the future of Hong Kong and the country.
"The development of the country is unstoppable. We must hit the right beat at this turning point of the times," Ma said, encouraging Hong Kong's youth to seize the opportunities in the national development.
Ma recalled the difficulties when starting his own career in Shenzhen during the 1980s, saying the city's achievements over the past decades were unimaginable.
While the remote small town in south China has developed into a global metropolis, Ma's garment factory has also become a conglomerate stretching to multiple industries from food to property and logistics. He currently is the honorary chairman of Carrianna Group Holdings Company Ltd.
Now with abundant capital and policy support, the business environment of the mainland has improved significantly, providing a great opportunity for the young people in Hong Kong to show their talent, Ma said.
Ma in particular cited the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
With its enormous market, the integration of the Greater Bay Area offers a broader room for youngsters, he said, adding that the nine mainland cities of the Greater Bay Area have rolled out various favorable policies from housing to incubators for the youth from Hong Kong and Macao.
To grasp the opportunities, the young people also need courage and a fighting spirit, the senior entrepreneur said. "The policy support cannot guarantee a success and ultimately you have to rely on yourself." Enditem
