Tunisia, France discuss ways to boost cooperation

TUNIS, June 3 (Xinhua) -- Tunisian President Kais Saied met on Thursday with visiting French Prime Minister Jean Castex to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

The meeting, also attended by French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian, covered also a number of regional and international issues of common interest, according to a statement released by the presidency.

Saied praised the deep friendship between Tunisia and France in all fields, especially in the economic, social, cultural and security fields.

The Tunisian President underlined the importance of further developing and diversifying the bilateral relations through joint projects and programs, in particular those related to employment, youth rehabilitation, migration, sustainable development, health and scientific and technological research.

Meanwhile, Castex reiterated France's continued support for Tunisia in meeting its challenges, especially in the economic, social and health fields.

The French prime minister also expressed "the commitment of the French government to strengthen bilateral cooperation and its determination to follow the projects in progress and to support French public and private investments in Tunisia," read the statement.

The health crisis linked to the COVID-19 pandemic was also on the agenda of the visit. Enditem
