GUANGZHOU, June 19 (Xinhua) -- A new 24-km highway project under construction may further enhance regional transportation in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area in south China.
Upon completion in 2024, the Shenzhen-Zhongshan cross-sea highway will shorten the travel time between Shenzhen and Zhongshan from two hours to just 30 minutes.
The 8-lane cross-sea highway link features a 6.8-km undersea tunnel, which consists of 32 immersed tubes and one final closure joint.
On June 18, engineering workers have started laying the tunnel's deepest immersed tube, set at over 40 meters below sea level.
