CARACAS, June 21 (Xinhua) -- The Bolivarian Congress of the Peoples of the World opened on Monday in Venezuela's capital Caracas, drawing delegates from more than 123 countries, the organizers said.

Representatives of more than 2,150 social movements and political parties from around the globe were participating in the event promoted by the Venezuelan government, the executive secretary of the congress, Andreina Tarazon, said at the opening ceremony.

"That speaks of the work ... to deepen, to build and to reach a scope that allows us to develop an agenda for struggle that goes beyond the local to the continental," said Tarazon.

The congress is set to debate global issues such as COVID-19 and the impact of the pandemic on humanity, Tarazon said.

In the three days of debate, delegates will also discuss the crisis of capitalism, neoliberalism and the new models of co-existence, as well as political systems in the world and progressivism, she added.

The congress presents both virtual and in-person events. Enditem
