By June 30, 2021, the eighth Bangladesh-China Friendship Bridge Project has completed 80 percent. The bridge is expected to be completed in June next year.

The project is now being fully implemented with isolation measures to deal with the severe pandemic situation. So far, no case of infection has occurred at the site.

All construction activities are proceeding normally now and the engineering work has not been suspended due to epidemic reasons.

Md Abdus Sabur, chief engineer of the Roads and Highway Division in Bangladesh, and a 15-person inspection team have recently made a special trip to the bridge to check its construction situation.

Officials said the bridge will play an important role in accelerating the movement of people and goods in Barisal and Khulna divisions in southern Bangladesh.

Md Sukker Ali has a shop near the gate of the eighth Bangladesh-China Friendship Bridge site. Many workers of the bridge project regularly come to his shop everyday to buy essentials. "Previously I was a fisherman. Now I mainly do business around the site here and I could get a good income," he said, "Thanks to the cooperation of the Chinese government and the Bangladeshi government, it brings better changes to our lives."
