WELLINGTON, July 11 (Xinhua) -- Matariki is a special occasion in the New Zealand calendar marking the start of the Maori New Year.
The Maori New Year that lasts from June 19 to July 11 this year, will be celebrated as a public holiday beginning on June 24 in 2022, showing the government's efforts on recognizing Maori culture.
