TOKYO, July 31 (Xinhua) -- The Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) defeated France 45-41 in the women's sabre team final, winning its third fencing gold medal of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games here on Saturday.
Manon Brunet beat Sofia Pozdniakova, champion in the individual event, 5-2 to give France a 20-14 lead.
Olga Nikitina pulled the ROC ahead 25-23 with an 11-3 victory in the fifth bout, where the ROC never looked back.
South Korea won its first Olympic medal in the women's sabre team event by edging Italy 45-42 in the bronze medal bout.
After failing to make the semifinals, China placed seventh after defeating Hungary 45-30 in the classifications. Enditem
