Chile fully vaccinates over 80 pct of target population against COVID-19: president

The vaccination process in the South American country has accelerated in recent weeks since the mobility pass, a permit that grants greater freedoms to the fully vaccinated, went into effect.

SANTIAGO, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) -- Chile has fully vaccinated over 80 percent of the target population against COVID-19, Chilean President Sebastian Pinera said on Wednesday.

"We have already surpassed the full vaccination of 80 percent of the (target) population," the president posted on his Twitter account.

So far, 24,823,976 vaccine doses have been administered, with a total of 12,167,623 people fully immunized, representing 80 percent of the government's target population of 15.2 million.

The vaccination process in the South American country has accelerated in recent weeks since the mobility pass, a permit that grants greater freedoms to the fully vaccinated, went into effect.

To date, Chile has accumulated 1,619,183 COVID-19 cases and 35,671 deaths.
